Disclaimer: I really like this place. I go all the time. I don't know if that might make the review seem a little biased.
If restaurants were people Chez Nini and Harem O
would be the children of privilege, the fat cats with silver cutlery.
Popular but without any real purpose. Yeti is not that.
Also they have pork and cheese. You can’t beat pork
and cheese.

The décor is pared down and pleasant. What can be
more pleasing than cool white walls accented with a little exposed brick and a
couple of brass knick knack-y things? There’s a tiny, tiny little balcony which
doubles up as the smoking area and is usually so full that the door doesn’t close
behind it.
TASTES LIKE
My Yeti fantasy food order reads as follows:
The Yeti
Special Tibetan Non Veg Platter with Tingmo – A sampler of:
Cheley –
Buff Offal cooked with vegetables and spices
Gyuma –
glorious shiny Tibetan sausages
Lowa – goat
lights cooked in traditional Tibetan style
Shapta –
thinly sliced Buff sautéed with onions, garlic and spices
I have no idea what Buff Offal is. Or goat lights for
that matter.
If all this is sounding too hardcore carnivore for you try the
glistening Spicy Shredded Pork.
Really want to play it safe? You can’t do better than the Chicken Mothuk (momos in broth with chicken).
Just got off a diet?
Try the Pork Datchi (slices of pork
cooked with vegetables in a rich cheese sauce). There really is something for
everyone. There are tons of vegetarian options too but I just haven’t been able
to move past all the meat to actually order it yet.
One of my resolutions for 2013 is to eat my way
through the Yeti menu. Maybe I’ll write an update post on the other stuff then.
Don’t miss the refreshing homemade lemonade or their
lemon tea. If you ask, they’ll even spike it with vodka for you. The bar is
perfectly sufficient for offering supporting lubrication for all the great food
you’re going to be scarfing down but this is really not a drinking place.
FEELS LIKE
The service is efficient and the food will turn up
your table hot. The problem is that most of Delhi seems to know this already so
the place is usually packed. Try to make a reservation or be prepared to wait.
Last time I went it was a Wednesday night and there wasn’t place for an ant in
there. I had to wait for an hour to get in but on the bright side I did end up
sitting next to Kalki Koechlin.
